Naloxone Fast Facts

  • Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. Common brands include narcan and Kloxxado. Learn how to administer naloxone.

  • Naloxone will not harm someone who is not experiencing an opioid overdose. If you’re unsure in an emergency, you can give someone a dose without worry that they will be harmed.

  • Naloxone can be found at many pharmacies and North Carolina allows anyone to request naloxone from one of these pharmacies without a prescription. You can also check with your local health department or harm reduction organization to see if they offer a free naloxone program.
